Dexter Phillip, also known as DEX, has worked as a celebrated stylist, writer and visionary entrepreneur. His muse is the energy and glamour of living and working in New York City. Born in the British West Indies-Trinidad & Tobago, Dexter grew up in New York honing his craft in the realm of fashion.
After studying theater and media communications at Marymount Manhattan College, and journalism at Columbia University, he eagerly positioned himself as an authoritative voice within the fashion industry by opening his own image consulting company called La Mode New York, styling for high fashion glossies, music moguls, celebrities and lifestyle advertising campaigns. During this time Dexter became a staple on the New York social scene; linking himself with edgy models, glamorous socialites, striking designers, brilliant makeup artists, and exceptional photographers.
Now a 20-year veteran in the world of fashion and beauty, Dexter embarked on making his long-time vision a reality - creating DEX New York – a private makeup studio with a red-carpet touch, and DEX New York Cosmetics – a healthy makeup line with good-for-your-skin ingredients, high performance standards, and photographic qualities that both the fashion industry and general consumer can all benefit and enjoy! He knew the industry was lacking a professional line of “camera-ready” mineral makeup that could be utilized in the industry, and felt a need to own the category. Thanks to his life partner, global artist friends, stylists and photographers the DEX empire was born March of 2008.
It takes a true-leader to start an empire, and that’s exactly what Dexter is. He’s a great listener with strong intuition, and doesn’t believe in the words no or I can’t. His friendly demeanor sets the tone for the company. Everyone is always welcomed like they are a celebrity, and that’s because DEX believes that you should treat people the way you want to be treated. DEX is at the forefront of the business everyday; meeting and greeting clients, applying makeup, spearheading seasonal trends and marketing campaigns, testing products, research & development of new products, answering customer inquiries, making sales calls, market research, and developing new partnerships. He’s humbly devoted, and thrives everyday to bring the best natural beauty products and customer experience to the market place for you.
Dexter’s fashionable life has been evoked by passion and love for the industry, combining a big apple vibe and a devotion to glamour...it just comes naturally to him. DEX New York is the culmination of everything Dexter has accomplished, loves, and lives for; and in turn wants his clients to thrive with the DEX New York brand.
When he’s not busy molding and shaping the company for success, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, soaking up NYC culture, traveling, and devoting time to his many charitable causes.
